Our Mission: To provide support to those in our parish and community who are not able to join in regular ministry. We furnish support through our homebound ministry, assistance to those grieving, ill or injured through providing meals, counseling and visitation by the minister, financial support to community members, and supporting conference missions.

Grief

When one of our parish or one of their family members dies, we provide meals in their home and if they wish a buffet dinner during visitation prior to the funeral.  The pastor is available for assistance in planning a funeral and for grief counseling.

Illness & Injury

Illness, sudden or chronic, and injury can result in members of the parish being unable to join the regular ministry of the church. We can help with meals, activities of daily living, and trips to receive medical treatment.

Homebound

Our homebound members receive a weekly newsletter by mail. Periodic greeting cards are mailed to celebrate birthdays and to let our homebound know we are thinking about them. Visits are made to those in assisted care facilities and nursing  homes.

Change for Children

Every Sunday, you will see a little decorated can sitting on the right side of the altar. All children and adults are asked to contribute by putting in their change. The funds are taken to Annual Conference every year. All the Holston Conference churches participate, and the collection is used to help children in our conference.

Pantry Fund

The Pantry Fund provides economic support to those in our community who need financial assistance. The fund is from donations during Holy Communion and generous financial gifts from the parish. Money can be provided for food, gasoline, home heating products, and shelter.

Crossroads Medical Mission

Crossroads Medical Mission provides primary medical services to anyone with difficulty accessing medical care in southwest Virginia and northeast Tennessee. Our staff consists of two board certified family physicians, a nurse practitioner, and an executive director. The mission is supported by a large number of volunteers. The mission comes to St. Anthony Catholic Church the first Thursday of each month. Our church provides lunch to the medical providers six times a year.

We encourage all of the members of our parish to become involved in Hands of Hope. Here are some ways you can help:

· Volunteer to call a homebound member regularly.

· Volunteer to send encouraging notes.

· Enlist your children to design creative greeting cards.

· Volunteer to visit a homebound member once a month.

· Volunteer to drive those who need a ride to church.

· Pray. Pray that these men and women understand the value they still hold for this congregation. Pray that they understand how treasured their lives are in God’s eyes. Pray that people will be moved to reach out to our homebound members in meaningful ways.

Our homebound members, too, can help. Here are some ways:

· Pray for volunteers to offer continued spiritual care for homebound members.

· Pray that the church will become aware of members who can no longer come to church but would benefit from continued caring contact.

· Pray for the church, the pastors and all the congregation.

· Pray for all the ministries and outreach of the church.

· Pray by name for those listed in the The Weekly Bulletin as ill or bereaved or away on military service.
